Julie Walters Gets Star
Julie Walters will become the first woman to get a star on the Broad Street Walk of Stars today.
Born in Smethwick, the double Bafta winner has starred in films like Billy Elliot, Educating Rita, the Harry Potter series and most recently Mamma Mia.
The 59-year-old attended Holly Lodge Grammer School for Girls before training as a nurse at the QE Hospital in Birmingham, then moving to Manchester to study acting. She has twice been nominated for an Oscar and also has a CBE.
Celebs like Ozzy Osbourne, Noddy Holder, Frank Skinner, Jaspar Carrott and Tony 'Bomber' Brown are amongst those who already have a star on Broad Street.
Allan Sartori, Marketing Director of the Broad Street Business Improvement District (BID), is the man heading up the panel which decides who should get the award next. He told BRMB: "We were absolutely inundated with people who wanted Julie to be inducted into our walk of stars here on Broad Street and incidentally she's the first woman, so we're quite proud of that.
She's one the greatest actresses this country's ever produced, i think. Certainly the greatest comic actress."
