XL Collapse Affects Flights from The West Midlands.
Thousands of passengers are stranded at airports around the country after arriving early this morning to catch flights.
We have been talking to our local Airports to find out how travellers here are affected.
Birmingham Airport
XL don't actually fly any of their planes out of Birmingham Airport. They do buy seats on other flights and then sell them on to customers. Airport bosses are currently trying to work out if people with bookings can continue to fly.
Peter Vella, Business Development Director said: “The XL operation at Birmingham is slightly unique as it does not operate its own aircraft, instead it leases an aircraft from Air Malta. As it currently stands the XL schedule for today is planned to operate.
“An Air Malta aircraft operating on behalf of XL departed from Birmingham at 0535 hours carrying 151 passengers to Skiathos in Greece. There is a further XL flight, again operated by Air Malta, due to depart this afternoon at 1630 hours to Tenerife. The return flight, from Kavala (KM6509) is also planned to arrive in to Birmingham at 1515 hours.
“The best advice for passengers who have booked with XL is to contact their travel agent or tour operator to gain confirmation that they will be accepted at their booked accommodation. If anyone has booked their holiday or flight online please contact them directly.
“If passengers have booked with any of the following brands: Kosmar, Aspire, Freedom Flights, Medlife Hotels, The Really Great Holiday Company and Travel City Direct their travel plans will be affected.
“This situation is fluid and we will issue updates during the day.”
